Accessibility Statement
Last reviewed: June 2026
Kaushalam is built for every learner — including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology. We are committed to making the platform usable by everyone, in English, हिन्दी, and தமிழ்.
Conformance status
We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA and the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW 3.0). The platform is partially conformant: most of the site meets these standards and we are actively closing the remaining gaps. Conformance is assessed against the native pages — not the accessibility toolbar.
What we have done
- Keyboard-operable navigation, a “Skip to main content” link, and visible focus indicators.
- Colour contrast meeting the 4.5:1 (text) / 3:1 (large text) thresholds, verified with automated scans.
- Labelled form fields, required-field markers, and screen-reader announcements for errors.
- The full interface in English, हिन्दी, and தமிழ் with the page language set correctly.
- An embedded accessibility toolbar (text size, spacing, contrast, dyslexia-friendly font, text-to-speech).
Known limitations
- A few session time limits are kept by design: the secure admin sign-in session and the timed mock assessment. These are essential security and examination controls, which WCAG 2.2.1 permits as an exception — they are not adjustable.
- Some pages are still being improved (heading order, autocomplete hints, and richer live announcements). We are working through these.
- Audio/voice features need a microphone and may need permission in your browser.
The accessibility toolbar
The toolbar on every page (an official UX4G widget) helps you adjust the display, but it is an aid — not a replacement for the underlying accessibility of the pages, which we test with the toolbar switched off.
Tell us about a barrier
If you hit an accessibility problem, or need information in another format, please tell us — we aim to respond within a few working days.
